Why joining Juventus is the wisest decision of Cristiano Ronaldo’s career?

For the past three years, there were many rumours about Cristiano Ronaldo‘s dissatisfaction playing for at Real Madrid and his possible transfer to a different club. All the rumours came to a halt when he was signed by the Italian Old Lady Juventus as opposed to the popular speculation of him joining Manchester United, thus leaving everyone in wonder as to why he signed for Juventus and not the Red Devils Manchester United. Here are some of my thoughts on why Cristiano Ronaldo left Madrid and what makes Juventus a favorable spot for him.

1. Cristiano Ronaldo’s frustration with Real Madrid

In the past two years, we have read a lot of news confirming that Ronaldo is frustrated at Real Madrid. Real Madrid is not the same as it used to be a decade ago. Many pundits consider the current Real Madrid team as the weakest in the recent times. In the last season, even though they won the Champions League, they could not win the La Liga or any other major title. Therefore, Ronaldo always felt his teammates were not good enough or are not up to his standards. Whenever Real Madrid lost a match in the La Liga, Ronaldo openly criticized the performance of other players. Hence, it is very evident that he wanted to play in a team of strong players.

2. Neymar Factor

Neymar -why Cristiano left Real Madrid
Last year Ronaldo won the Ballon d’Or for the fifth time. During the event, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez said that, if Neymar wants to win a Ballon d’Or, he should play for Real Madrid. This comment did not go well with Cristiano Ronaldo who always considers him the best in the world. The thought of sharing his dressing room with Neymar did not seem great for him. To add to the fire, Marcelo, during a press conference, said that Ronaldo has no say in whom the FC chooses to buy and that it is all left to the president. Besides, in the first half of the previous season, when Ronaldo was struggling to score goals,  Madrid President Florentino Perez and the then coach Zinedine Zidane had made some comments about adding Neymar to the team.

3. Low Salary

Cristiano leaves Real Madrid due to differences

Even though he has won the Ballon d’Or for the fifth time, Cristiano Ronaldo was paid less than what Lionel Messi and Neymar were paid by Paris-Saint Germain and FC Barcelona respectively. Ronaldo was offered a new contract in 2017 but still, he was way behind Messi and Neymar, as far as payment was considered.  As per reports, Messi and Neymar get paid 568000 Euros and 520,000 per week whereas for Cristiano Ronaldo it was just 400000 Euros per week. Cristiano Ronaldo felt that it was a disrespect towards the world’s best player. Ronaldo in a press meet even said, “offer the best or offer nothing”.

4. Ronaldo’s Age

Cristiano Ronaldo Bicycle Kick

Christiano Ronaldo is no more a young boy who can dribble and run with the same energy for the 90 minutes. He is now 33 and said in a recent interview that people of his age are either going to Chinese league or MLS, but he is signed by one of the most powerful teams in the Europe, Juventus. Whenever critics thought he is over, he proved them wrong. However, his style has changed over the years. He once used to be powerful from outside the box and an above average player inside the box. But right now he does not go for long rangers or shots from outside the box but instead, he prefers to play inside the box. This strategy has indeed worked in his favour. When he is inside the box, even the best goalkeepers in the world cannot stop him. If you have watched Ronaldo’s bicycle kick in the Champions League semi-final match against Juventus, you would know what he still has to offer. But that hasn’t stopped critics from commenting about his age. Besides, Ronaldo also knows that although he is fit, it will be difficult for him to win Golden Boots or Ballon d’Or if he continues to play for Real Madrid.

5. It is not easy to dominate Premier League

Cristiano's focus on winning Premier League title

Ronaldo, like any other celebrity, enjoys attention and desires to be the star of the game, but it is not easy to achieve that in the Premier League. As we all know the Premier League is all about pace and is physically demanding. If one looks at history, with an exception of Manchester City,  no team has managed to consistently reach the top four position. Hence, it is crystal clear that success is uncertain regardless of the club. In such a situation, it is always wise to be a part of a team that comprises of young and strong players who have a proven record of high-level performance. The team Juventus that had challenged him in the last Champion’s League match ticks all the right boxes.

6. Ronaldo’s Champions League fascination

Cristiano Ronaldo UEFA Champions League

Ronaldo loves Champions League more than anything. Last season when Real Madrid was suffering in the La Liga, he chose to rest and concentrate on Champions League. He already holds numerous records in the Champions Leagues like, for highest number of Champions League goals (120), highest number of Champions League final wins, and as the only player to score in 11 straight Champions League games and only player to score 10 goals against a single club(Juventus) in the Champions League. So, Ronaldo wanted to play for a club that will qualify for the Champions League. And the easiest selection was Juventus the reasons are explained in the next point.

7. Juventus domination :Consecutive 7 league wins and 4 doubles

Juventus - Cristiano Ronaldo

If you don’t follow Serie A then let me tell you, Serie A is all about Juventus. The reason why I say this is because Juventus won the 2017/18 Serie A title making them the only club to win the league title for a consecutive 7 years, also they are the current Coppa Italia Champions which they won for the consecutive 4th year. Also, in the past four Champions leagues, Juventus reached finals twice. This proves how strong they are not only in Italy but also in entire Europe. If they can reach semi-finals or finals without Ronaldo or a Ballon d’Or winner, imagine how strong they will be with Ronaldo. This will help Ronaldo to win more titles and create a huge fan base.

8. Juventus will build a team around Cristiano Ronaldo

When a footballer becomes a star, he wants a team built around him. But Cristiano Ronaldo is 33 years old and cannot demand the same from any club. Juventus, on the other hand, are very happy to have him and are showing all the willingness to build a team around him. This can help him stay at the top flight for some more years and maybe even till the next world cup.

9. Ronaldo’s Ballon d’Or dream

Cristiano wins Ballon d'Or for the fifth time

Winning a Ballon d’Or is every footballer’s dream. Ronaldo has won it five times proving himself to be a competent footballer. But there is one more player who has won it the same number of times as Ronaldo- his biggest competition, Lionel Messi.  Ronaldo
who always believes that he is the best in the world wants to have an edge over others by adding more Ballon d’Ors to his credit. As it became obvious that it won’t be possible playing for Real Madrid, he saw new possibilities at Juventus.

10. Ronaldo as the main man at Juventus FC

Cristiano Ronaldo joining Juventus
Ronaldo wants to be the main man at the clubs he plays for. He was the main man at Real Madrid till the 2016/17 season but in the 2017/18 season, there were some disagreements from his team players which left him frustrated. Juventus’ legend Buffon has left the team and joined PSG. So, it is predictable that Ronaldo is going to be the main man at Juventus.
We at The Review TV hope these points explain why joining Juventus was a wise decision for Cristiano Ronaldo. We think that he possesses the right amount of aggression and passion to be successful. He is talented, hardworking and deserving of respect and high consideration. I truly hope that team Juventus helps him unleash his full potential.
